When to cook the Christmas Steamed Pudding?
Steamed Christmas Pudding is traditionally prepared on a Stir-up Sunday (last Sunday of the Advent). Generally all family members meet up to prepare the pudding mixture. After making the Steamed Pudding it is left till Christmas to get matured.
Do you really have to make your pudding in advance like Stir-up Sunday? Not really, but the Pudding that is made more in advance and kept to mature, will generate better taste. It can also be prepared 4 – 5 days in advance

How to Reheat Christmas Pudding
The easiest method for reheating is to reheat steamed pudding in microwave. First remove the wrappings from the pudding. Next wrap in the foil and reheat the christmas pudding in the microwave for 150ºC(300ºF) for an hour or till the pudding becomes hot.
Alternatively to reheat the christmas pudding, it can reheated by steaming on the stove. To reheat steamed christmas pudding on the stove, first remove the wrappings, and keep the pudding in the mould and cover it perfectly. Place the mould in the large pan with water / steamer, the water level should be halfway up the side of the mould. Steam it for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until hot.
How to Make Steamed Christmas Pudding
- Mix the ingredients of Christmas Steamed Pudding, orange and lemon peel and dry fruits like dates, cashewnuts, currants, raisin with brandy and lemon juice very well.
- Then sift cinnamon, clove and nutmeg powders and flour together with the breadcrumbs. Next mix butter and sugar very well. Beat till it becomes light and fluffy. Gradually keep on adding eggs, and beat them very well after every addition. Fold in prepared flour, fruits and nuts mixtures.
- Spoon the mixture in to the greased pudding basin (1 litre mould), gently putting the mixture . Cover the mould tightly with grease proof paper or aluminum foil securely tied.
- Putting the pudding basin (mould) in the steamer filled half with water, steam the pudding for nearly 2.5 – 3 hours. Check the water level regularly, it should not dry. You can check if the pudding is ready by piercing the toothpick and see if it comes out clean.
- Finally remove the xmas pudding from the steamer, and let it cool naturally. Remove the wrappings and again wrap it tightly in new greaseproof paper / aluminium foil. keep it at cool and dark place till christmas,
- Before serving the pudding, again steam it for one hour, then cut the Xmas Pudding into small portions. The christmas steamed pudding can be served with brandy sauce or custard or ice cream.

Easy Christmas Steamed Pudding Recipe, How to Make Steamed Christmas Pudding
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup candied orange and lemon peels chopped
- 1/4 cup seedless dates chopped
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts chopped
- 1/4 cup currants chopped
- 1/4 cup raisins chopped
- 2 tbsp brandy
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup refined flour
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/4 tsp cloves powder
- 1/4 tsp nutmug powder
- 1 +1/2 cup fresh white bread crumbs
- 6 tbsp butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs beaten

- Remove the pudding from the steamer, and let it cool naturally.
- Remove the wrappings and again wrap it tightly in new greaseproof paper / aluminium foil. Keep it at cool place till christmas.
- Before serving again steam it for one hour, then cut the Xmas Pudding into small portions.
- Serve the Easy Christmas Steamed Pudding with brandy sauce or custard or ice cream and decorated with cherries.
Notes
- You can use baking paper instead of greaseproof paper
- Try to prepare this steamed christmas pudding in advance, because gets more matured and yields better taste
- Check the water level while the steaming process is one, if necessary more water can be added.
- Any leftover pudding can be refrigerated or frozen (well wrapped). And again reheated by wrapping the baking paper or aluminium foil
